Love Languages - Works For Me!

Rocks In My Dryer

Today is our 8th Wedding Anniversary, so I thought it fitting to make this WFMW about marriage.

"What would he really like?" is a question that often goes through my mind when searching for a birthday, christmas or anniversary gift, and because I like giving gifts, I spend a lot of time on this.

First of all today, I made this as his breakfast in bed.

Anniversary Breakfast

And for the present? Bryce got a coffee grinder to go with the fan dangled coffee machine I bought him six months ago for no reason, just cause I wanted to give him a gift. At Christmas time, Bryce has been known to have up to 12 presents under the tree because I keep buying him little presents and wrap them up so excitedly and hide them beneath other presents.

I am a gift giver, so the way I show my love to Bryce is by giving him gifts. But if I really asked the question "What would he really like?", the answer would be time. Bryce feels loved and shows his love by spending quality time with me. Im sure he doesnt mind all the presents I buy him, but what would really fill his love tank quickly is if I suggested we go out somewhere. So that is what we are doing tonight.

Do you know what it is that makes you feel loved the most? What about your spouse or someone special in your family?

It could be:

1. Gift Giving

2. Words of Affirmation

3. Quality Time

4. Physical Touch and Closeness or

5. Acts of Service

Have you worked it out? Why not try to do something for someone special, in their love language, to say 'I Love You'.

See you later, I'm going to make dinner reservations :)

This information comes from the book "The Five Love Languages" by Gary Chapman. Well worth a read if you'd like to know more!

Good post – knowing our love languages has definitely made a difference in our marriage as we're better able to "communicate" our love to each other!

Good Post. I think that book should be mandatory reading material for every married couple.

I took a bible study on the love languages at my church. It was awesome!

My husband and I have the same love languages as you do...but they're opposite with us! My husband's is gifts and mine is quality time. I sometimes wish his were different, because it's usually a budget buster to show him love! Great post, it reminded me that I need to think of "something special" to buy my husband. If only you could find a cool present for a man under $10!

I really like the Five Love Languages - great reminder to make sure we are loving our men (and children) the way they feel loved. Thanks for this! :)

I've tried really hard to figure out my sweetie's love language, but I think he is multi-lingual!!!

My hubby and I have been married almost ten years, and we just talked about love languages a few months ago. It turns out I'm a gift-giver/receiver and he's an acts of service, so we weren't communicating well. Now that we've talked about it, we're much better at speaking each other's language!

Very good advice, but I think it would be wise to site that that information is from the book, "5 Languages of Love"

Even if a husband's love language isn't gifts, we can always, always be thinking "what would he like" and coming up with the perfect gift, be it time together, time alone, acts of service, etc! I love that you are always thinking that.

We are big believers in that book around this house too!

I have referred back to this book many times. I am now ready to read the one for children. I can already see them developing (and using ) love languages.

I think my hubby and I are just like you and yours, as far as love languages go.

Cute breakfast. :)

Thanks for the post.. this has reminded me not to be so selfish with my husband in using my own love language as a gage for him.. I think I need to let his own love language speak for itself!!

I am taking note of that breakfast. That is hysterical. My husband would love it...after he got over his heart attack that I MADE breakfast in the first place.
