Home Sweet Home

A friend of ours just got kicked out of his house. Their whole family will soon have to move - they came home one day and found their bedroom had been sealed off and they only have this tiny part of the house to live in. All their bedroom furniture was thrown away by the owners. As you can imagine, he is none too happy about this and has made his feelings known to the owners.

He just sits looking out of this small hole wondering what he is going to do to find a home for his family.

When I say "friend" though, we havent known him for very long, and I wouldn't say we are on the best of terms....

Possum

This little possum is quite upset because his future in our house is uncertain. He lets us know of his displeasure by hissing and scratching.

My husband and I have lived in 8 houses in our 8 years of marriage, so we understand a little of how he feels. If anything unjust was done to us like unfair rent increases or witheld refunds, we were sure to let everyone know about it.

If anything happens that we dont think is fair, or that sets us back, or prevents us from acheiving our goals, or changes our plans, or costs us time or money, we get scratchy and hiss at those around us. The main reason is that we are trying so hard to protect our home, our comfort, our lifestyle or our future here which is uncertain at the best of times.

But we need to remember this is not our home at all! My possum friend has a much better suited home out in the bush where he belongs, but as far as he is concerned, he will fight for this corner of the roof even if it costs him his life.

We have a home in heaven which is prepared just for us..
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." John 14:1-3

But so often we will fight and scratch to get our corner of the world all comfy and nice and hiss and snarl if we dont get it. That's not the way its meant to be! We have a home guaranteed. Jesus has paid the price. The mortgage papers have "PAID IN FULL" stamped across them.

Lets live in the light of our true Home Sweet Home.

HaHa! I was reading that first paragraph and feeling all indignant like "..who DOES that sort of thing.." and then scrolled down to see the possum!

But as usual you have used this illustration to make a very good point. I totally agree with what you've said, but it's really hard to remember that truth when something does threaten my comfy little home.

Are you a pastor or laypreacher?

Hehe no, my husband is a pastor and I'm an ordinary mum open to being used by an extraordinary God.
I do speak occasionally at womens events and I do love speaking, but writing certainly fits into my schedule easier with two young kids! :)

I knew there was a lesson coming...

And yet againm, there was.

Funny thing...I have been stewing over two posts knobs (or tops or decorative pieces or whatever they're really called) from my front porch.

If you saw the picture of Sophie left out in the snow, you'll notice the two knobs on the left side of the porch. (Left, if you're facing the road.)

Wellll, the two on the right side are laying in a chair on my porch waiting to be re-attached with some sort of Gorilla glue (I have no idea what that is.) or whatever will hold.

It bugs me to no end. People have questioned if we have termites. To Courtney's dismay, her boyfriend's mother tried to grab hold of one coming up our porch, only to have it come off into her hand. Her fist thought: termites. I immediately called our termite company. They had already come out earlier last year. I asked about carpenter ants. My mind when wild with thoughts of bugs eating away at our house.

I was tormented, really. I've thought of doing a post myself. BUt only because I, too, found a lesson in this.

Our termite company has already come out this year for renewal. AND checked for other insects. No problems. All great.

But the post need reattaching.

And Joe wants a "project" for upcoming spring. He wants to strip and repaint the porch.

ARGGHHH..thoughts of a drawn process in which he may very well go about all the wrong way filled my mind.

MY DAD IS A PAINTER! HELLO.... hasn't he learned how much faster Dad could do this?

He won't have it. Further talk would only insult him. So, I'll leave it at that. Wondering all the while if those knobs will be stolen by...oh I don't know who would still porch post knobs, but...you know, the mind...it goes crazy places.

Will they sit there a sweet forever begging to make me go crazy?

Oh, I should've really done a post on it...

The lesson in it all....we ARE just pilgrims passing through. Setting my sites on things above, eternal things, is what I'm called to do. While not to leave my other requests undone, I should primarily because focusing on my "house"--my temple.

Oh, the work needed there.

OUCH!

Okay, I'm through now that I have taken up the comments section....
